Rich Kearns wins at Veracruz in the 2013 X Pilots Tour

Hello Everyone,
We just got back from the WORCS race at Sand Hollow, Utah. It is a State Park with BLM land all around it. The course was one of the longest in WORCS history at more than 13 miles and over 21 minute lap times for the Pros. With lots of sand dunes, slick rock, washes, and two track sections, it was a true mixture of terrains. A true off road race that was extremely challenging. On top of that, it was one of the most beautiful places we have been to. As with any race this big, there were a lot of challenges. The WORCS crew did an amazing job of working through each challenge and in the end put on another great event. I hope this event stays on the WORCS schedule in the future.
With the track being so long, and wider than most, it was decided to run the Pro, Pro-2, and Pro-2 lite motorcycles and the ATV Pro and ATV Pro-AMs together. While there were some concerns at first, Everything worked out well in the end. It made for better spectator viewing and created more consistant race action.
Robby took his second win of the year in fine fashion. He got a two kick start, was mid pack in the first corner, but by the three mile mark had the overall lead. From there he pulled away to an eventual 5 minute lead at the finish. While sand has never been his specialty, he is making great progress turning that around.
Justin took his first podium in the Pro class. He had a decent start, and rounded the first lap in fourth. From there he battled for two laps with Bobby Garrison. On lap four, he passed into third, and ran strong to the finish.
Overall it was a great weekend. Up next is the Virginia City GP for Justin, and the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 for Robby where he will team with David Pearson. Then it's back to WORCS in early May. Busy Schedule!

Just got back from the WORCS series round 3. It was an overall great weekend. The WORCS crew did a fantastic job. The course was really tough as usual for Havasu. They worked hard to keep the lagoon jump prepped. And on a side note, two UTV's jumped the lagoon jump ! Big Ones Guys !!
Robby rode well to take second place Pro behind Taylor Robert and ahead of Bret Metcalfe. He continues to lead the Pro point standings. Attached is his race report and a few pictures.
Justin Seeds is working back up to speed. He was second at the start. He rode a smart solid race and took sixth Pro.
Ty Renshaw had a tough day. He was looking good early running in the top three. But a bad crash around the 40 minute mark had him questioning if he could continue. He came into the pits, regrouped, and toughed it out to take an impressive seventh Pro-2.
Once again, Thanks to everyone for the support. We've been getting a lot of exposure and press.
Also a BIG Thanks to Sean Reddish, Mark K. and the whole WORCS crew for putting on well run and demanding events. If you think you're tough, you need to come to these races.

We had another great weekend as David Pearson and Robby Bell took First Overall at the Best in the Desert Laughlin U S Hare Scrambles. Our second team of Ricky Brabec and Ty Renshaw took a solid third overall giving us two spots on the podium. Attached is Robby's race report and some pictures of him and Dave. I'll be sending GoPro footage from Robby soon. I will hopefully have some from Dave also if he was able to go out on the course and find his GoPro. Bummer.

We had a great weekend at the second round of the WORCS Series in Primm Nevada this last weekend. Robby Bell took the Overall Win in the two hour Pro race on Sunday. It was his first WORCS win, and he did it in dominating style, taking the lead on the first lap and controlling the race to the finish. Justin Seeds had some great lap times, but ended up with some bad luck and took sixth overall Pro.Ty Renshaw took a Big step forward by taking the holeshot in the combined Pro and Pro-2 race, then rode strong to take Second in the Pro-2 class. This was his first podium finish.

Well the first WORCS race is behind us and we are off to a great start. Robby took Second in the Two Hour Pro Race behind series defending Champion Taylor Robert. We weren't sure how he was going to hold up as he had sustained a wrist injury the previous week at the Parker 250 when he was roosted with a large rock by a lapper. Robby toughed it out and rode strong the whole way.
Justin Seeds showed good speed in practice, but struggled some in the race, especially after a rear start, and finished eighth. This was his first Pro race, and we will work to get him dialed in more, knowing he will get up to speed.
Ty Renshaw has been nursing a dislocated thumb, but decided to test himself at this tough event. He took fifth in the 450A race, and was running as high as third in the Pro-2 race, but unfortunately his bike had a lot of hours on it, and decided it needed a rebuild 1 1/2 hours in. He'll be on his new bike at the next race. He showed great speed for very little riding time since last year.
Next races up are the WORCS race round two, February 10-12, Robby should be back to 100% and we will shoot for that top spot on the podium. Then we are working with THR Motorsports on an effort for the BITD Laughlin Hare Scrambles. David Pearson and Robby are the defending champs of that series, and look to continue their winning ways.

We got off to a great start at the first BITD race of the year taking the Overall and Open Pro Win. David Pearson and Robby Bell teamed up to defend their win from last year. For David, this was his third straight win. The race was a tough one as the temperature was below freezing at the start. This became real evident when they watered the pits and it turned to ice. Ricky Brabec rode one of our bikes and lead for nearly two laps. But eventually David and Robby overcame their rear start position to take the physical lead and the win. I will send Robby's race report for a more detailed look at how the race went.
The next race up is the first WORCS round at Canyon Raceway in Arizona..

From the article..."Precision Concepts' suspension settings worked great for riders ranging for 150 pounds to 200 pounds plus with minor adjustments. Bob Bell gave us great resistance to bottoming without sacrificing the overall ride comfort. This was our favorite thing about the bike."
David Pearson and Robby Bell win the Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno Race, with an average speed of over 60 miles per hour.
Hi Bob,
Rode my 03 450R in Colorado last weekend over some of the toughest rocks I have ever been on.
Rode up and down a jeep road called "Radical Hill" (11,000 foot high peak) the rocks on this road ranged from grapefruit to watermelon size. The road had several switch backs and bouncing off it could be a horrific mistake.
With the PC mod suspension I could constantly soak up the grapefruit size rocks without deflecting and steer through the watermelon boulders.
Pretty amazing stuff.
With the X cam in the R, the R's light weight, and hte very thin air it was a significantly easier bike to ride than the XR650.
Whish I would have taken care of the 03 450R suspension sooner.

From the April 2012 issue of DIRT BIKE magazine....KTM 500EXC
" For pilots who want to test their talents against the terrain, we heartily suggest Precision Concepts' fork and shock mods. We wanted our bike to be more adept at speed ( for the occasional GP or moto foray), but didn't want it too harsh for rocky trail carnage. Precision Concepts gave us exactly what we wanted...The suspension went from salivating on trail gruel and wincing on high speed obstacles to acceptable behavior on slow-speed rocks and roots and superb manners on mid-speed hits, jumps and high-speed desert whoop sections. Besides the increase in its ability to attack terrain, rather than grimace and hope, the bike's overall cornering and handling traits went up several notches. The bike sat up and was balanced when cornering, held a line better (since it wasn't diving dramatically) and seemed to make better traction at both ends."

We drew 11th start position on the start. Before the start, two riders withdrew in front of us so we were now the 9th rider to take off. Robby started the race. In the first 90 miles, he quickly passed several riders and moved into 3rd overall. He lost a little time making these passes, but by pit two, he pulled the time back and was dead even on adjusted time as the two lead Honda teams. Shane then got on to do the next 100 miles. 45 miles into his ride, the 0x Honda team ran out of gas and we moved into 2nd. Shane had a clean ride, but lost some time. At pit 4, we were 3:45 off the lead. The 1x Honda bike was leading, but had a big crash and made a few repairs to their bike.
Bobby got on to run a short section of really tough whoops. He pulled back some time before handing the bike off to David. The next 115 miles David would slowly reel in the 1x bike getting us back on even adjusted time. Then 1x pulled back away and at pit 7, we were 2:30 down. We had our first major pit for wheels, air filter, etc. Robby was back on the bike for the next 110 miles. We were down 3:47. Through out his section, we lost time and dropped to 5:00 back, then pushed back up and at pit 10 was back to 3:45 down. Bobby got back on and had another good ride pulling back 2 minutes. David took the shortened Mikes loop and pulled back another 1:15.
As we hit pit 10, we were back to within 30 seconds on adjusted time. Another stop for lights, wheels, air filter and Steve was off for 110 miles. He did the crossover road to hwy 1 and pulled a little more time. We were now even on adjusted time. When he turned the lights on, we encountered a problem, One of the lights mounting screws broke out. The driving light was not working and he was left with only the spot light working. This made it difficult on the twisty coast roads. When he arrived in pit 15, the decision was made to push the light into place and secure it as best possible. This worked, as both lights were now on. We were now down 5:00. Shane took off for the last 75 miles. The lights flickered some then stayed on. At pit 16, we were 8:00 down with 36 miles to go. At the finish, we crossed the line 10:30 behind, 2nd overall.
This is a very brief summary of the race. The riders will have race reports to further explain their section in more detail. Overall this was a well run race. The pits were very good. THR really stepped up and we had all the pit supplies we needed. The crews worked flawlessly. The chase crews were spot on all day. It would be hard to find a place to say where we could improve on our ground support for the race.
After the race, we were very interested to see why we had a tough time in the lower areas of San Felipe pulling more time. It turns out that we were being too careful with the allowable amount that we can spread. One example was near pit 8 where we were hitting 3-4 foot whoops, and the lead bike was over 700 feet away in a flat sand wash. There were several examples of this through out David and Robby's sections. Through the diligent work of Rob at THR, we now have a better understanding of the course width. It's unfortunate we couldn't get this information before the race. The light issues were tough to take. after running all week with two other identical sets, and having no problems, it was a bit of a surprise. We have already analyzed the problem and a solution is in place.
While we didn't get the result we were hoping for, we had a lot of positives. We battled the whole way, and had the speed to win. Scott, Rob and the THR crew are highly motivated. The entire organization of the race was real good. Any problems leading up to the start were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Russ was awesome organizing the pit equipment. Phil and Ty were great with with all the prerace preparation. The bike ran flawless the whole way and was still strong at the finish. I feel we are right there for the win. The issues that kept us from it are already addressed. If we were to go to the start line tomorrow, I have all the confidence we would win.
